How can an Indian lawyer (lawyer in India) get a law degree (to become a lawyer) in the United States?
I’ve heard something about a “bar association” or about taking a lawyer’s final test somewhere in California (without having to go to law school for another 2-4 years)…

yes…its the bar
Regardless of where you got your credentials, lawyers in the U.S. must pass the BAR exam before they are accredited in the U.S.
Each state of the US has it’s own criteria and it’s own test for giving someone a license to practice law (referred to as being admitted to the Bar). Even if you are a qualified lawyer in India you have to show you are knowledgeable in US law to practice here.
You would have to look into a particular state and see about getting submitting your law school records and about scheduling to take the Bar Exam.
Ok. The American Bar Association accredits law schools. States have different admissions policies, but most states require that you graduate from an ABA accredited law school and sit for a very grueling test called the “bar exam.” You must pass that test in that state before you can practice law in that state (subject to various exceptions) . California has the hardest bar exam in the nation. So, I wouldn’t reccommend starting there.

California does provide that attorneys admitted to practice outside the US can qualify to take the California bar examination without additional study. However, it is doubtful that you could pass the examination without some study, which is probably available online.
