How to a research if a lawyer is needed to collect a judgment in the state of New Jersey for small claims court.
I would like to proceed with wage garnishment without a lawyer and would like to know if this is possible in NJ. The amount i’m seeking to collect is 3k.
Thanks

I think you could go to the Shireff’s Office in the county of the person who is in default. Give them a call.
You can do it. You need to go to the court where you were granted judgment (clerk of courts office). You will need to complete a form for bank account attachment (you need to know the bank s/he uses and if possible the account number(s). There is also a form for wage garnishment. If no asset info is known you need to move for a debtor’s exam. There are filing/serving fees you must pay for these things, but you can tack them onto your judgment as costs. RJ
